Birth Mother's Day ... Differing Views

Adoption Author, Lori Holden
I love my contacts in adoption! Long ago, when I first started out online as a blogger I met a fantastic advocate whom I have come to admire. She is one of Parenting Magazines Top Ten Must Read Moms, and she deserves the honor. Her name is Lori Holden and she has a way with words.

She emailed me to let me know that she was gracious enough to quote me in an guest post she did for Disney Baby, and this is one of the reasons why I love her! She files all the adoption writers she knows in her head and can remember our words with accuracy ... and then is kind enough to share our thoughts with the world.

Thank you Lori for being a friend not just to me, but to all you know. I always appreciate when you spread more opinions in the hopes to help so many out there!

Please read on to introduce yourself to Lori if you do not already know her ....

Great Post About Mother's Day From Another Mother

So, an aquaintance of mine on Facebook left a comment on a question that I posted on my fan page about Mother's Day and Birth Mother's Day. We got into a conversation about the controversy about the two days and boy oh boy did I love what she had to say! I asked her to blog for me, but it must have gotten her thinking because she posted her own thougths on the matter and again ... I  loved what she had to say!

With her permission, I am reposting her mind here on my blog and I sure hope you read her thoughts. She is a passionate woman who does not advocate for adoption, nor does she advocate against it. Matter of fact, she does not advocate at all. She just speaks her mind and her truths as she knows them and I, for one, am glad she is out there! Thank you Etropic for sharing your brilliance with all of us! Soooo glad you read that question that got you thinking ....

Happy Mother's Day! Why I Celebrate It, and Always Have

It has become a custom of mine to share with all of you the reason why I have always celebrated Mother's Day ever since I became a mother over two decades ago. Sure, I was a birth mother and had no real claim to parenting, but I still saw myself as a mother ... and a good one at that.

The following Happy Thought, the first that I ever wrote for this blog, is still one of my favorite tales to share about my adoption experience. You see, you never know who will come into your life and say the words that will stick with you for the rest of your days. You may not know it at the time, but that person can change not only the perspective that you have of yourself, but also the perspective that you THOUGHT you had of yourself. This amazing woman, whom I hope is still around and making people happy, was such an angel when I needed on the most. She was so unselfish and really made it a point to treat me with respect and also with dignity. I have never forgotten her, and if I could find her today I would tell her that her words ring true in my ears the second Sunday in May of every year since I met her.

So Happy Mother's Day to all of you out there, whether it makes you sad to hear it or puts a smile on your face I am still going to say it. You should celebrate you on this day, and remember that life will always find some way to bring peace to your soul.

To Celebrate, Or Not To Celebrate ... What Are Your Thoughts???

So, there is much debate as to we should celebrate Birth Mother's Day which is the Saturday before Mother's Day, or the actual day itself. I see it everywhere, people liking it, despising it, indifferent to it. I am curious, do you celebrate either day? If so, why?

I am working on a post about this topic and would really like to know what my readers think about it. So please, if you have something to say ... then say it here. I have always felt that talking and communication is a great way to learn more about a particular subject.

Talk amongst yourselves ... and here. :)
